AIADMK: V K Sasikala found guilty of corruption charges by Supreme Court..!!

NEW DELHI: Vivekanandan Krishnaveni Sasikala, who is a general secretary of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK) political party. She is very much associated with J. Jayalalithaa, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who died in 2016. After’s Jayalalithaa’s death, the party council collectively decided to appoint V K Sasikala as a chief of AIADMK.

In 1998, the prominent corruption scam case  and chargesheet were filed against J. Jayalalithaa, VK Sasikala and other colleague member during Karunanidhi’s government. The charges were jointly accused of owning several bungalows, luxury cars, tea estates, eight tonnes of silver, nearly 30kg of gold and thousands of saris which could be not accounted for through their salaries. In 2014, both were sentenced to jail for corruption but were acquitted on petition after serving a brief period behind bars.

Sasikala was briefly expelled from the AIADMK by Jayalalithaa over allegations that her family was misusing the leader’s name, but she was allowed back in after publicly distancing herself from her husband.

After 21 years, the Supreme Court verdict came in a disproportionate assets case yesterday that VK Sasikala sentenced for 4 year term jail. Sasikala, who was not present at the sentencing in New Delhi, was asked to immediately surrender to the police to begin serving her sentence. The panel also sentenced her nephew and niece to four years in prison after a lower court had earlier acquitted them of any wrongdoing.

The news sent shockwaves among her fans back in Tamil Nadu. More than 200 anti-riot police were deployed at a seafront resort where Sasikala was camped with a group of state lawmakers she said supported her in her bid to become the state chief minister.
