NEW DELHI: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim got convicted on Friday by the special CBI court in Panchkula. He has been sentenced for 20 years in prison for raping two women in a 2002 case. The controversial guru found guilty under rape charges. Followers of Gurmeet Ram Rahim showed their anger by burning down the gas stations, public transports and building and did a lot of damage to government and private properties.
To control rioting mob in many parts of Haryana and Punjab the state administartion has imposed the curfew to stop the riots. Army and Police march passed in many parts to maintain the law and order. Internet facilities have been turned off in the area. Due to the followers of Dera Chief neighbouring states are also on high alert such as Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. “3700 Men are deployed in Haryana and 400 men in Punjab for any eventuality” according to S Sharma DIG SSB. Judge and other officials of law which are involved in this case has been provided special protection.
Ram Chander Chhatarpati who was allegedly killed by suspected followers of Gurmeet Ram Rahim while reporting the rape case. Journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati’s son Anshul Chhatrapati welcomed the decision of court and said that “I welcome the quantum of sentence to Dera chief by the court. The court has unmasked the fraud seer. My father’s struggle against him has become fruitful today”.
The rape allegations On Gurmeet Ram Rahim came when In April 2002 The Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee recieved an anonymous letter from a women who was a Dera Sadhvi in the letter she mentioned that she was raped by Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim. From May 2002 the rape case against Dera Chief started and it took almost 15 years. In those years there were many allegations and evidences which came into notice that Baba was engaged in several crimes such as murder, harassment, sexual assaults and other illegal activities.
