Social distancing is a distant goal now, it seems?

Social distancing is a task for fighting against Covid-19

NEW DELHI:  Thousands of migrants who had dreams of going to their home villages have suddenly lost all hope as the Delhi police have blocked their entry to the buses lined up at the UP border touching the Anand VIhar bus station in East Delhi.  While the UP government had earlier announced that they would ply the migrants to their hometowns but seeing that the social distancing was not possible,  it realised its mistake and discontinued the service though the buses are still lined up.

Social distancing is essential at this hour of crisis as it would help in preventing the community spread. Now the Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have thrown a missive through proxy Delhi LG Anil Baijal that Arvind Kejriwal failed in preventing the migrants from leaving Delhi.

The social distancing appeal had been expressed by the Prime Minister Modi when he addressed the nation on television a few days ago and the lockdown was part of it. This would contain the spread of Corona virus, he had added.

But the Anand VIhar  exodus has proved otherwise.  The UP government’s assurance that all the migrants would be checked and examined for the infection before they are allowed to enter their village.  This could have been done earlier also but the government failed as it does not have enough testing kits in their kitty.  The Delhi government had said that it had the facility of testing only about 100 samples a day.

The ADM (city) office at Ghaziabad is flouting the social distance guidelines in a blatant way.  The premises is overflowing with people for getting their curfew passes made.  Neither a  queue nor is any staff instructed  to get the people in a line.  To top the problem, the details on the curfew passes is being written by hand which takes a lot of time and is subjected to mistakes in the vehicle numbers and the names of the holders.

If this goes on corona virus infections may go up.
